Youth and Justice Support

Cultural Guidance and Youth Mentoring

  • Led by cultural leaders represented by the 3 Island Families our team works with members on exploring traditional healing, spiritual support, teaching of language and provide services focused on supporting Nation members to explore where they come from and who they are.
  • We combine our cultural support services based on the guidance of traditional and hereditary leadership within the communities we serve in order to ensure our approach is grounded in the specific and unique teachings of the community.
  • Our youth team, comprised of young people from community, in a peer support model work 1:1 and in groups of youth to provide coaching, support and life skill work at the individual level.

Criminal Justice

  • Our people are overrepresented in the Criminal Justice System. Our integrated multidisciplinary team members including trauma practitioners and cultural healers – work with communities and members who are in contact with the Justice system.
  • We work with the offender while in custody to build a plan with community, leadership and the victim(s) to ensure safe and planful reintegration.
  • Often, by supporting the offender in supportive relationships through a trauma informed lens – while ensuring the safety needs of community and most importantly, the victim, are identified in a safe way – and plans are developed to ensure supports are in place traditionally and professionally to ensure successful transitions.

Gladue Writing for Courts

  • Our qualified Gladue Writing experts provide specialized services for Indigenous Offenders – which is the right of every Indigenous person facing a loss of liberty (incarceration or community sentencing) to have a Gladue Report written to inform the Judge of their life story and factors influencing their lives such as the impact of colonialism and residential school intergenerational impacts.
  • Our Gladue Writers were certified by Royal Roads University and Indigenous Perspectives Society, are listed with the Legal Services Society of BC and are also on the IPS Roster.
